Brewers call up Sal Frelick, who has ties to Greensburg
Sal Frelick, a Milwaukee Brewers farmhand who has ties to Greensburg, was called up to the big club Saturday.
Frelick, 23, who is MLB Pipeline’s No. 17 overall prospect out of Triple-A Nashville, is set to bat sixth and play right field Saturday night when the Brewers host the Atlanta Braves, according to MLB.com.
Frelick’s father, Jeff, is a Greensburg Central Catholic graduate who went on to play football at Pitt. Sal’s grandfather, Henry, played football at Greensburg Salem.

Brewers outfielder Raimel Tapia was designated for assignment.
Milwaukee’s No. 2 prospect, Frelick is hitting .252 with two home runs and eight stolen bases in 43 games for the Nashville Sounds.
The 15th overall pick in the 2021 draft out of Boston College who earned a $4 signing bonus, Frelick bumped up to Triple-A last year.
A left-handed hitter who throws right, Frelick slashed .331/.403/.480 with 11 homers in 119 games in stints in High-A, A and Rookie ball.
Frelick joined Team Italy in the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
