Blues' Pat Maroon's son breaks down after dad's Game 7-winning goal

St. Louis Blues forward Pat Maroon put an end to a long night when he stuffed in a rebound to send the Blues to the Western Conference finals with a 2-1, double-overtime win over the Dallas Stars on Tuesday night in St. Louis.

Maroon’s 10-year-old son, Anthony, was captured sobbing at the site of his dad playing the role of hero.

Sitting with a group of other players’ families, Maroon’s fiancee, Francesca Vangel, told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that watching Maroon score the goal was an “out-of-body experience.”
“(Anthony) started sobbing. And then I started crying,” she told the Post-Dispatch. “It was unreal. It was awesome.”
Anthony said he hadn’t quite realized it was his dad who scored the goal until Vangel turned around and told him. Later, he got to share a moment with dad in the locker room.

Maroon is a St. Louis-area native who went to Oakville High School in the suburbs.
Maybe it’s not quite on the same level as a hometown hero hitting a walk-off home run in the World Series, but it’s pretty darn close.
