Big Ben has taken a big step forward in his rehabilitation from right elbow surgery.

The Pittsburgh Steelers posted a five-second video clip on their web site Saturday that shows quarterback Ben Roethlisberger throwing a football. It’s the first time Roethlisberger has thrown since September when he left at halftime of the Steelers’ home opener against the Seattle Seahawks because of pain in his throwing arm.

Roethlisberger had a medical exam on Friday in Los Angeles with Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the Mt. Pleasant native who performed the surgery on Roethlisberger’s elbow.

As evidenced by the video, Roethlisberger was cleared to begin a throwing program.

In the video, which was taken in a gymnasium, a bearded Roethlisberger is wearing gray shorts and a blue hoodie. He takes a step forward and effortlessly throws a pass.

The Steelers are counting on Roethlisberger’s healthy return for his 17th NFL season. Without Roethlisberger for all but six quarters of the 2019 season, the Steelers finished with one of the NFL’s worst offenses.

Roethlisberger turns 38 in March.
