Bailey Parshall tosses perfect game for Penn State softball
Senior softball left-hander Bailey Parshall channeled her inner WPIAL self on Friday.
The Penn State senior out of Belle Vernon pitched the fifth perfect game in program history as the Nittany Lions defeated Florida International, 7-0, in the second game of a doubleheader in Miami, Fla.
Parshall (2-1), who came back after rehabbing an arm injury in the offseason, struck out 11 in her 21-up, 21-down performance while displaying similar form to that of 2014-18 at Belle Vernon when she led the Leopards to three WPIAL titles and recorded 984 strikeouts.
Her perfect game was the first by a Penn State pitcher since Missy Beseres in 2005. Parshall forced seven flyouts and three groundouts. It was her third double-digit strikeout game of the season and 13th of her career.
In high school, she threw six no-hitters and had an ERA of 0.79.
She has more than 400 Ks at Penn State, where she is 21-38 with 436 punchouts and 85 walks.
