Altoona Curve promotes Nate Bowen to general manager, as Derek Martin moves to advisor role
The Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, announced Wednesday the promotion of Nate Bowen to general manager.
The 2022 season will mark Bowen’s 10th in the Curve’s front office. He spent the past three as assistant general manager to Derek Martin, who has accepted a job in the insurance industry but will serve as a senior advisor. Bowen joined the Curve in 2013 as a communications and broadcast assistant, rising from there through the ticket sales department to the assistant GM role in 2018. Bowen spent five years as the radio voice for the Curve and also serves as the play-by-play voice for several Altoona-area high schools.
“Nate has been an integral part of our team here for a long time. He has helped our organization in countless ways throughout his career, and we all think that he is ready for this next challenge,” Curve chief operating officer David Lozinak said in a statement. “Nate has extensive experience in all aspects of our operation, so he’s just not a pretty voice that most people have heard on the radio; he’s an extremely intelligent individual that is well-versed in minor league baseball. He is a natural successor to Derek since Nate has been his right-hand man for the past 3 ½ years, and we expect him to excel with Derek’s help along the way.”
