Franco Harris viewing to be held at Acrisure Stadium
Fans, friends and admirers wishing to pay their respects to the late Franco Harris and his family are welcome to attend a public viewing Tuesday at Acrisure Stadium.
The viewing will be from 1-5 p.m. at the PNC Champions Club at Gate A, according to a posting by the Tatalovich Funeral Home in Aliquippa.
Stadium parking lots will open at 11 a.m.
Harris died unexpectedly at age 72 this week. At halftime Saturday night of their game against the Las Vegas Raiders, the Pittsburgh Steelers are formally retiring Harris’ No. 32. Harris played 12 seasons with the Steelers.
A Hall of Fame running back, Harris scored the touchdown in what has become known as the Immaculate Reception on Dec. 23, 1972, during an AFC playoff game against the Raiders.
Harris’ death and the frigid weather has led to the cancellation of some of the events surrounding the week of celebration and recognition of Harris and the iconic play that in 2019 was named the NFL’s greatest moment of its first 100 years.
In lieu of flowers, the Harris family suggested memorial contributions be made to The Pittsburgh Promise (www.pitttsburghpromise.org) or the Franciscan Sisters of the Poor Foundation at (www.franciscanfoundation.org).
