A-K Valley Senior Legion baseball teams enter stretch runs
The A-K Valley’s Senior Legion baseball teams continue to move through their league schedules as they enter a busy stretch run to the playoffs.
Plum visits Highlands on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Allegheny South action at Highlands High School.
Plum enters the game 4-2 overall after a 7-2 win over South Allegheny on Friday. The team also owns victories over Upper St. Clair, Bethel Park and Highlands.
Highlands, a new team in the league this season, started 0-3 before sweeping a doubleheader from Elizabeth Forward on June 12.
The team, consisting entirely of players from the Highlands high school squad, is 2-5 heading into the rematch with Plum.
Highlands then hosts South Allegheny on Sunday at 2 p.m., while Plum plays at South Park on Monday at 8 p.m.
After Saturday’s game between Highlands and Plum, players who are rising seniors and younger from the nine Allegheny South teams will gather at Highlands for a showcase and all-star tryout.
A group of 20 – four pitchers and two from each of the other eight positions – will be selected to compete against players from the Fayette County and Washington County leagues in a showcase Thursday at Washington’s Wild Things Park.
College coaches will be on hand to evaluate the talent, and players will be selected to form two teams for a nine-inning all-star game.
