Letter to the editor: Working class deserves a raise
Why is it when working class people start to spend more money on essential goods and services, like food, housing, and delivery of goods and manufacturing, it is called inflation, but when entertainment or nonessential items go up, it is not called inflationary? It currently costs $500-$600 for a family of four to attend a Steelers game. That same amount can buy groceries for two weeks or more for the same family.
I have never been to a Steelers game, and I am no worse for it. But I can only survive for 30 days without food and need housing, manufacturing and delivery of goods and services to survive. We found out during the lockdown that a grocery store worker was more essential than a Kardashian, a farmer more essential than Tom Brady, a truck driver more essential than an Oscar winner. And any front-line worker is more essential than any politician or political commentator.
The working class of this country deserves a raise! Stop complaining and spend your money wisely.
