Letter to the editor: Wordsmithing, religion and abortion

Tribune-Review

When the Trib reprints articles from the Associated Press, I often have noticed what I see as implicit bias and slanted wording when comparing President Trump and Joe Biden.

For example, the article “Trump, Biden go on offense in states they’re trying to flip” (Oct. 18, TribLIVE) begins “Trump began his day in Nevada making a rare visit to church before a fundraiser.” However, the sentence on Biden begins “Biden, a practicing Catholic, attended Mass in Delaware before campaigning.” I have found such subtle wordsmithing (rare versus practicing) used quite regularly in the media.

In addition, if Biden is a practicing Catholic, his support of abortion on demand is diametrically opposed to his religion’s core teachings.
