Letter to the editor: Won't support NFHS over HSSN

Tribune-Review

It is such a shame that the WPIAL has dumped the TribLIVE High School Sports Network (HSSN) for a streaming service with a less-than-5-star reputation.

I certainly hope the WPIAL got a boatload of money, as they really cheapened their reputation with many local sports fans by doing this. HSSN has broadcast every sport, every imaginable game, and did it well. At no charge.

Now the WPIAL is giving this out-of-town company, NFHS, the championship games of selected sports (all the big sports — forget everything else) and selected playoff games (again, the big ones only). So they pick and choose and bring in announcers who don’t have local knowledge. Nice work if you can get it. And they did.

Oh, and we have to pay now. For an unknown entity. How nice. I think there are going to be some real surprised people as to how many people sign up.

Don Rebel and his crew have done an outstanding job covering everything. I hope this loss does not put HSSN in danger. It would be a true loss to the real fans.

I have no plans to give my money to this entity. I’ve talked to many people who are enraged and feel the same way as I do.

My last comment would be that I hope Judas, oops, WPIAL Executive Director Scott Seltzer didn’t sell TribLIVE HSSN out for 30 silver coins.
