Letter to the editor: Wind turbines kill birds

I’m glad someone finally published something about missing birds (“Missing: Nearly 3 billion birds that used to live in North America,” Sept. 19, TribLIVE). If you do your research, you will discover that wind turbines kill a year roughly 500,000 birds each year. It’s estimated that 900,000 bats are also killed annually by wind turbines, 30% higher than in 2009. There is also quite a bit of research out there as to how much natural resources are required to put one wind turbine up. Not to mention the cost of resources to build one.

This is all conveniently overlooked by climate scaremongers, the Audubon Society, Greenpeace, the Sierra Club, et al. Why? Because it does not fit the narrative that New York City will be under water next year.

You may also want to check out the damage to the environment that producing just one electric battery for one car does. Or the human cost to mine precious metals in developing countries or China. It’s easy to find data that says you can put thousands and thousands of vehicles on the road using fossil fuel for less impact on the environment.
