Letter to the editor: Why Trump supporters believe him
I have been at a loss to understand why family members and friends are such strong supporters of President Trump. He continually lies and when facts support that he lied, he calls it “fake news,” and his supporters believe him.
Recently I heard a doctor on a medical panel call this disorder confirmation bias neurosis. This occurs when information that confirms a pre-existing belief is given priority over information that does not support a pre-existing belief.
In a nutshell, Trump supporters concentrate on information that supports their belief, and neglect or undermine information that goes against their beliefs. I hope this helps you to understand why some Trump supporters believe his every word.
