Letter to the editor: Where's the outrage over Republican smears?
Ray Schratz’s letter “Biden’s uncivilized discourse” (Sept. 13, TribLIVE) would be laughable if it weren’t so sad. He says President Biden “smeared” 50% of Americans by calling them fascists and racists. Schratz must have missed the smearing of over 50% of Americans by Republicans at all levels calling us pedophiles, groomers, radicals and communists. Where is his outrage about that?
He claims Trump “had America first in his actions.” Where is his evidence for that? Just because Republicans keep saying it doesn’t make it so. Trump looks out for Trump first, as he has done throughout his silver-spoon life. The evidence for that is his behavior since the 2020 election, including Jan. 6 and his traitorous disregard for the laws about preservation of our, not his, classified documents.
If Trump truly cared about America, rather than his own fragile ego, he would have followed the patriotic examples of Al Gore and Hillary Clinton. They both received more popular votes, unlike Trump, but acted like adults and accepted the Electoral College verdict. The fact that Trump still acts like a child, and that people like Schratz still support him, is an inexplicable blot on America that will take a long time to erase.
