Letter to the editor: What's become of our honored FBI?
The tearful request “Say it ain’t so, Joe!” rang in the hearts of American baseball fans and non-fans alike back in the last century. Maybe it would be enough of a concern today for most of the folks who heard of yet another case of malpractice, not in baseball but in government.
But for me, and perhaps others, when confronted with allegations that America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation is shot through with charges of political corruption and favoritism as to who should be investigated and who should not, I feel more like throwing up.
For those of us who grew up in the 20th century, “We’re talking about our FBI, guys!” — the one, single place where solidity of honor and truth shone through, always, so strong and brightly that it was never doubted, even in the slightest. When such honor is in question, it makes you sick to your stomach.
There are some who claim these charges against the FBI are ridiculous. Perhaps, but the arguments are strong and the accusations believable enough to ring true. Good God, how far have we gone? What have we become? Can America ever come back from this position of shame and dysfunctionality?
