Letter to the editor: What conservatives believe

Tribune-Review

Please stop telling lies about conservatives/Republicans. We are not anti-immigrant, we are anti-illegal immigration. We are not “climate deniers.” We know the climate has always changed and will continue to change, and many experts say CO2 is not the cause — it is the sun, the earth’s orbit, the earth’s relative position in the galaxy and many other things, none of which are due to human activity.

And we are not suppressing the vote — we are protecting the integrity and the sanctity of the vote. We are not working to stop mail-in ballots; we support the current absentee/no-excuse mail-in ballot system that allows voters to use a mail-in ballot if they so choose, but they must do so in a timely period and with certification of identity.

We believe only legal citizens should be permitted to vote, and they should be required to provide proof of identity, no different than being required to prove your identity for nearly everything else, including getting on a plane or entering a county, state or federal office building, or getting the covid vaccine, or even buying cigarettes.

And we are not racist. We want all citizens to be given the same opportunities to succeed, but we do not believe eliminating testing or minimizing requirements based on race solves anything and, is racist.

We want journalists to stop repeating word-shortened descriptions of those whom you disagree with because they are not just misleading, they are lies.
