Letter to the editor: Westmoreland Transit drivers know system best

Tribune-Review

In the article Westmoreland transit touts rider gains” (Aug. 11, TribLIVE), the Westmoreland County Transit Authority told of the welcome, slowly growing increase in ridership. Also mentioned was the possibility of hiring a consultant to “review and design a new route structure.” I’m sure, if the Westmoreland Transit managers asked their drivers, they would get the answers needed.

No one knows the routes better and what their passengers want than the drivers. I am sure, if Westmoreland Transit offered a well compensated opportunity to their drivers, they would end up with well thought out, functional alternatives. An “outsider” would have a very stiff learning curve to become familiar with the basic road system and the routes the buses use before beginning to develop any suggestions.

The drivers are professional, well trained and responsible people who would do their best with pride to help the agency improve further. Common sense.
