Letter to the editor: We'll never have a fair accounting of Trump's actions
I read Bob McBride’s letter “Trump haters should be mindful of facts” (Jan. 18, TribLIVE) and had to smile. His claim of only hearsay, assumptions and accusations would be laughable if a fair hearing of facts were permitted. But because President Trump barred most eyewitnesses from testifying at congressional hearings, Congress had to rely largely on secondhand information.
If Trump was innocent, why would he not want people who had firsthand information to testify and clear his name?
Without testimony from people actually involved in the decisions Trump made, there will never be a fair accounting of what transpired. But it seems that is exactly what the Republican Party wants. They can’t afford to have the American people know that Trump conspired to have a foreign government interfere in our election and lied about it.
I am not guided by feelings, but I am emotional about where this country is headed if we continue to believe a liar who only has his self-interests at heart. I do not hate Trump because he won the election over Hillary Clinton, but because he is a liar and is embarrassing this country in front of our allies and enemies alike. He needs to be removed from office, but I knew the Republican-led Senate would never allow that to happen.
He will have to be voted out by the people. I just hope Putin is not able to influence too many gullible people to vote for Comrade Trump.
