Letter to the editor: We must continue to Build Back Better

Tribune-Review

These are trying times for our country; lots of new, as well as continuing, challenges. Our communities deserve the best and most urgent action from our Harrisburg and Washington, D.C., leadership to address these challenges.

Across the country, voters came out in record numbers to elect new leadership in Washington. It is important to note that many good things have been happening, despite the lack of Republican support — access to the covid vaccine, stimulus checks, monthly payments to families with children, lower costs for health care, etc. However, much remains to be done to strengthen our country and position us for the future.

Everyone of us deserves clean air to breathe, appropriate housing, nutritious food, quality education, access to health care and good-paying jobs.

With the bipartisan infrastructure bill just about settled, the focus must be on the “Build Back Better” reconciliation package with investments in jobs, climate, children, seniors and those with disabilities. This plan will make health insurance, child care, housing and college more affordable for families across the country.

I campaigned and voted in 2020 for leaders who would be creative thinkers and who would envision a better future for all of us. We are on the cusp of historic relief that’s desperately needed and long overdue. We need the leadership in Washington to continue to keep the 99% of us in their sights while making the 1% pay their fare share.
