Letter to the editor: We must all help the police keep us safe

Tribune-Review

Lay a gun on a table. Leave it there for a year. How many people did this gun kill?

Guns do not kill people. Guns are not the problem in our society. Watch the news every day. What is being done about all the murders? Nothing, it seems to me.

Our justice system is as much to blame as the criminals. Our elite politicians, instead of building more prisons, are closing them. So where do the criminals go? Back on the streets, or maybe house arrest.

What about the death penalty? Think of “kill for thrill” murderers Michael Travaglia and John Lesko. Lawyers love it: They have clients who will be steady income forever.

Our elites could never stop the drug problem, so instead they legalized them. No more problem. They can tax them, which puts a big smile on their faces. Maybe our elites will make murder legal again. Problem solved.

Most people who murder do not have a permit to carry, so background checks don’t help. Most murderers don’t buy their guns legally; they steal them or buy stolen guns. So again, background checks not used.

You need to get all communities behind you to have change. A policeman I knew said you have to have good informants to be a good cop, and lots of them. Yes, the police can only do so much, and the elites make it harder and harder for them to do their jobs. We the people must do a lot more. Call it being a snitch or call it saving lives.
