Letter to the editor: We can't afford Freeport salaries
David Horchak’s letter “Six-figure salaries don’t belong in Freeport schools” (June 25, TribLIVE) hits the nail on the head. What is sad is that school districts as a whole spend most of their budgets on salaries that seem to go unchecked. Then you can always question, are you getting the best bang for your buck?
Freeport Area School District is a rural area with scattered concentrations of residents. The school board should be working for us, not us working for them to fulfill their aspirations of grandeur. With inflation skyrocketing and prices continuing to raise weekly, people are struggling, and the seniors are hit the hardest; we live on fixed incomes.
Next year is an election year for a good many Freeport school board members; the following are the names you should remember: Melanie Bollinger, Greg Selinger, Adam Toncini, Melanie Zembrzuski and Michael Huth. These are the members who graciously brought you the new tax increase of $204 for 2022-23 to go along with the continuing tax increases every year for the last nine years. Sadly, the four heroes who fought against it lost the battle but hopefully not the war. If by chance you forget, a campaign will remind you before election time.
