Letter to the editor: We all have a right to pray

I watched in horror as Damar Hamlin fell back to the ground after a tackle. We knew something terrible happened. What happened next was no surprise to many of us. We all started praying for the well-being of this young man. Skilled athletes were seen kneeling on the field praying. Coaches and the entire stadium were silent in prayer. Folks at home were also praying.

In the context of what is going on in our country these days, this was a miracle. Not too long ago, we read of a high school football coach being fired because he knelt on the field with his players in prayer. How could this be? I believe we know the answer. The majority of Americans believe praying to a higher power is a good and necessary thing. Millions of us sent our voices upward on behalf of Damar, and it seems God heard our prayers. A miracle? Each of us can decide for ourselves. The doctors would say he is making a remarkable recovery. What or who did the prayers hurt?

It is time for the people to take back the right to pray anywhere or anytime. It is our God-given right, not restricted by artificial rules. Because we choose to pray does not mean we are infringing on the rights of others. It is their choice to pray or not. God bless America!
