Letter to the editor: Walter Williams is a disgrace

Fox News commentator Laura Ingraham once famously told NBA star and activist LeBron James to “shut up and dribble.”

I believe Black professor Walter Williams is just as bigoted. Williams has made a lucrative career demeaning members of his own race.

In “Diversity, equity and inclusion nonsense” (Sept. 4, TribLIVE), he argues that Blacks are just great in sports such as basketball and football. But in astrophysics? Not so much.

Williams’ premise is shared by economist Thomas Sowell and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas. If members of their own race don’t pull themselves up by their bootstraps and really apply themselves, then they don’t deserve a hand up to enjoy the American dream.

Here’s a clue for Williams: If affirmative action was abandoned, the majority of Ivy League graduates wouldn’t be spoiled, entitled white boys. They would probably be ethnic Chinese.

This whole nefarious concept of who is preferred by God in this life was advanced by the Swiss John Calvin. He postulated that the passing lane to heaven is reserved for those acquiring the most wealth. In the 17th century, this led to wars, massacres and martyrdom.

Williams seems to believe that he deserves his station in life while every other Black American has to either be an athlete or a shoeshine boy. How would readers react if I, as a Caucasian college graduate, claimed that all white people (excluding myself, of course) were ignorant and greedy and should be consigned to the backwash of humanity?

Obviously you don’t have to be white to be a galvanized racist. Williams is a disgrace.
