Letter to the editor: Vote Smail for Pa. Superior Court

Tribune-Review

With nine years’ experience as a Westmoreland County judge and 17 years as a successful practicing attorney, Harry Smail is certainly well qualified for Pennsylvania Superior Court. Coming from middle-class roots, his values include a deep- seated faith, personal responsibility, fair-mindedness and achievement through hard work. As an attorney and as a judge, he firmly believes issues must be decided purely on the basis of the law as written.

Smail attended Grove City College, then worked full time as a probation/ parole officer while attending Duquesne University’s law school at night. He received his juris doctorate in 1997. After working a short time with a larger law firm, he operated a thriving private law practice from 1998 to 2014. During that time, he represented several thousand clients involving family, corporate, civil and criminal matters, as well as serving numerous nonprofit and community organizations on a pro-bono basis.

Gov. Tom Corbett appointed him a Westmoreland County judge in 2014, and in 2016 he was elected to a 10-year term. During his most recent nine years, he served first in Family Court and then in Civil Court. During his time on the bench, he has presided over more than 1,000 cases. Of them, his rulings have been appealed about 100 times. Only one was overturned on appeal — a remarkable testament to his quality as a jurist.

On May 16, please join me in voting for Judge Harry Smail for Pennsylvania Superior Court.
