Letter to the editor: Vote no on Republicans' amendments

Tribune-Review

Our overpaid, underworked Republican state politicians are proposing amendments to the state Constitution that would deny taxpayer-funded abortion and any other rights related to abortion and deny citizens the right to choose who they want to run for lieutenant governor. And the big one is that they want all electors to provide a valid identification at every election. It doesn’t matter if you have been voting at the same polling place for years. They also want the auditor general to be able to audit election results.

Abortions are legal in this state and are medical decisions between a woman and her doctor, paid for by most insurance programs. This should not be decided by politicians.

Lieutenant governor should stay an elected position, not one picked by political parties.

The voter ID amendment is a ploy to prevent citizens from voting and give the party in power the right to reject election results they disagree with. In my opinion, this is a result of President Trump’s lies about the election being stolen (all court challenges were dismissed because there was no proof of fraud).

Politicians instead should solve the problems of a proliferation of assault-style weapons, underfunding of public schools, fixing our roads and providing tax relief to senior citizens, which has been promised for years.

Also, what happened to the promise of an amendment to reduce the size of the state Legislature? We never got to vote on that, but they want to make unnecessary changes that will benefit Republicans. Don’t be fooled; vote “no” on these amendments.
