Letter to the editor: Vandergrift on the rise
When I came to the Vandergrift area several years ago, the mood appeared to be less than positive, but over the last few years, it has changed for the better. The community has a new esprit de corps mindset.
A community that works together as a unit can accomplish many great things. When local businesses and residents join forces, communities can be revitalized, and many good works can materialize, such as recreation and senior centers. These are much needed in Vandergrift to give our seniors and young people places of safety, education and purpose.
Many people will say, “That can’t be done; no money; nobody cares.” But the naysayers are incorrect. Money is available, and people do care. Working together with local businesses, organizations such as the American Legion, Lions Club, VFW, Vandergrift Business Association, Vandergrift Improvement Program, local churches, etc., can do miraculous things. Why don’t we reach out to these organizations and volunteer, help as needed and revitalize our area?
I’ve heard the saying that it’s easy to break one arrow but almost impossible to break many. We could improve everyone’s quality of life if we act together.
