Letter to the editor: US has done well on environment

The recent raising of the discussion on climate change by our Democratic Party members must be viewed with one important requirement. Over the last few decades, the United States has done a darn good job of cleaning up our environment. No, it is not perfect, nor is it completed, but it is darn good, using good old U.S. civil Democratic and Republican discussions, negotiations and methods wherein we would come to agreed upon sensible approaches to clean things up. We should pat ourselves on the back and share these methods with the others on our planet.

For some reason, this has now been deemed an insufficient approach, and we have representatives on the Democratic side telling us we must spend billions, and maybe trillions, more dollars, and impact our lifestyle, to save the planet, and we must do it now.

I do not know if man is really making the impact that they believe, but there is one thing for sure I do know: If any plan does not include at least China and India, and parts of Russia, in a binding agreement, then any more money spent by us will have such a small effect that it will be a waste of time in trying to accomplish the stated goal of “saving our planet.”
