Letter to the editor: Trump's 'law and order' moniker ironic
President Trump’s reelection strategy was based on our supposedly wonderful economy. When that plan was not successful, he pivoted to running as the “law and order” president, as highlighted in the article “Trump deploys more federal agents under ‘law-and-order’ push” (July 23, TribLIVE).
One has to marvel at the irony of this situation. Trump, whose university and charitable foundation were shut down because of fraud. Trump, who Robert Mueller said he would indict if he were not a sitting president. Trump, who tries to use the long arm of the Justice Department and the courts to stifle anyone with negative accounts of his behavior and actions such as Michael Cohen, Mary Trump and many prosecutors and inspectors general. Trump, who obstructed justice by commuting the sentence of Roger Stone. Trump, who had Attorney General William Barr drop charges against Michael Flynn. Trump, who used an unidentified army to snatch peaceful citizens off the streets and place them into unmarked cars. What chutzpah.
Trump seems to have no regard for the rule of law, the Constitution, our norms or democratic principles. In my opinion, he is obstructing justice, profiting from the presidency, engaging in abuse of power and attacking the free press. Really! Not the image of a law and order leader.
