Letter to the editor: Trump's inaction on coronavirus

Tribune-Review

I am enraged to hear our president imply that he is doing a good job since only 100,000 or more American citizens will apparently die from the coronavirus (March 29 news briefing).

When he became president in 2017, he was given a pandemic playbook and pandemic director and staff. He did not use the playbook. In 2018, the pandemic response team at the National Security Council was dismantled.

For months Trump sat on his hands. Finally, about mid-March, he began doing a few things, but he refused to marshal our military and other government agencies to take federal control of the pandemic.

He indicated the federal government would act in a supporting role.

This policy is a disaster because governors found themselves bidding for necessary medical supplies against each other and FEMA.

His inaction has led to countless deaths.

For example: Spring break was held in Florida and the Mardi Gras in New Orleans. These students and partygoers scattered across the United States, infecting many other people. If he had acted in early January, these events would not have happened.

My prayers are that this president develops some leadership skills and takes federal control of this chaos that is leading to the death of many Americans.
