I read with interest the article “Pennsylvania Republicans weigh the party’s future post-Trump” (Jan. 10, TribLIVE). In it, some talked about abandoning “Trumpism” as a way for the party to move forward. So I ask, “What is Trumpism?”
Yes, President Trump governed in an unconventional and controversial way. One may not like Trump as a person, but his ideals are clear: prioritize American interests first, not China or the EU; bring manufacturing back to the USA; energy independence; secure borders; low taxes; strong military and peace through strength — there was less foreign conflict under Trump than in more than half a century; appointment of judges that adhere to our Constitution; curb media and big-tech censorship of conservative opinions.
I wish Trump did more to reduce government spending. But otherwise, I’m not sure who in the Republican Party would not embrace these basic tenets of “Trumpism.”
