Letter to the editor: Trump the one to fix USPS

Tribune-Review

Letter-writer Paul Carrick (“Trump and the post office’s problems,” Aug. 24, TribLIVE) is correct in saying that President Trump only wants to fix the United States Postal Service, and I can testify to how broke it is.

When I operated a local contracted post office for seven years (sometimes called a village post office), I tried in vain to persuade the USPS to try out my ideas for better customer service, more customer convenience and better local options for mail delivery, but was always turned down. I believe every one of my ideas would have made more money for the USPS than what it receives now and would have been wins for businesses as well. Almost every administrative request I made was mishandled. I could never find anyone who could make a real decision.

I now fully understand the basis behind the term “going postal.” Carrick and Trump are correct. The USPS is bleeding money, and its leaders have no idea how to fix it. We need a businessman like Trump to fix it.
