The shameful bedlam, anarchy, desecration of our sacred Capitol and rioting that took place in Washington on a modern day of infamy was precisely what one could have expected, and the responsibility for it is to be laid solely and squarely at the feet of Donald Trump: so much for the presidency of law and order.
Many Americans have swallowed Trump’s fairy tale that the election was stolen from him. He kept the drumbeat going on a daily basis, and as the date approached on which Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ victory was to be certified by Congress, he called for his supporters to come to Washington to engage in a “wild” protest. On the day of that event, he and his henchmen fanned the flames, egging on the mob to march to the Capitol to disrupt the proceeding.
After chaos had broken out, Biden acted like a president, delivering a magnificent, calming speech on national television while stating his sadness and disgust over what he was witnessing. He called upon Trump to calm his rioting supporters. Trump quickly asked his forces to go home, but only after again promoting the fiction the election was stolen from him and telling them he loves them.
Dishonorable mention goes to the members of Congress who would not cross Trump, instead being disloyal to our country as they objected to certification of the Biden victory. Trump and his enablers have blood on their hands. I hope they are happy with their handiwork.
