The price of eggs continues to rise and gas and grocery prices continue to be high, yet President Trump is not addressing these issues as he promised.
Instead of focusing on lowering costs for health care and education and fixing our broken immigration policy, a member of the Republican- controlled Congress has introduced a bill, HR 722, that will ban all abortions, giving fetuses equal rights under the law while being mum on programs that support a child once born.
Chaos ensues as Trump focuses on defunding programs and agencies that help people keep the lights on, keep our drinking water clean, aid communities recovering from disasters and support and protect our struggling middle class, so he can reduce taxes for the wealthy.
Trump continues to label migrants as criminals, rapists and murderers, embedding fear and justification for mass deportations instead of focusing on fixing our immigration policy. This is not what will fix America’s problems. Will those who need a job take the place of those deported? Will we see Americans doing the farming and high-risk jobs such as roofers, or will those businesses fail due to a lack of workers?
Illegal migrants and immigrants pay taxes but they cannot collect the benefits like Social Security, disability and Medicare, and they are consumers of goods and services, which fuels our economy. Their presence in our society strengthens, not weakens, the middle class.
By the time Trump supporters realize what he is doing to the American people that will benefit only the wealthy, it will be too late.
