Letter to the editor: Trump administration casual about war

Tribune-Review

Regarding the article “Sen. Toomey lauds Trump for calling off Iran strikes, supports stricter economic sanctions” (June 21, TribLIVE): More sanctions are absurd to Iran. How would we like it if someone took our medicines away? That’s what happened in 2013 before the Iran nuclear deal. Iran rightfully fears that they will return to pre-Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action conditions.

As Sina Azodi wrote for the Atlantic Council: “The Trump administration prides itself in siding with the Iranian people in their struggle for freedom and democracy. However, not only has the administration not taken a meaningful step to ensure that the population is not impacted by unilateral sanctions, it has openly worked to undermine Europe’s attempts to establish a reliable channel for humanitarian trade with Iran.”

Iran will destroy oil reserves, and the economies of the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, totally dependent on oil, will crumble, creating a global catastrophe. This administration isn’t trustworthy to our allies.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Jared Kushner are protecting Israel by pushing Iran to discontinue their support for Palestine, which is an apartheid state. We shouldn’t get involved because the Middle East will join Iran.

You can’t just casually take the idea of war and try it on for size — but you can do that with peace.
