Letter to the editor: Toxins in mac & cheese

A 2017 study by the Coalition for Safer Food Processing and Packaging found phthalates in the cheese powder in boxed Kraft macaroni and cheese. Phthalates are found in hairsprays, raincoats, detergents and flooring. Studies have shown that phthalates can increase the risk of miscarriage and risk factors for gestational diabetes, and the U.S. Consumer and Product Safety Commission banned certain phthalates from toys and child care products.

I do give credit to Kraft for taking the artificial dyes and preservatives out of the powder, but these toxic chemicals must be removed for the sake of our children and future children. To make your voice heard by this powerful food company, you can sign a petition at kleanupkraft.org.
