Letter to the editor: Tough talk from Biden could help end war in Ukraine

Tribune-Review

Almost the entire world is outraged with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but where is President Biden’s outrage? Sure, he condemned the invasion, called Putin names and implemented some sanctions. It took Biden a month to have an emergency meeting with NATO. When he implemented sanctions in February, Biden said, “we’ll see in a month where things stand.”

We were still importing Russian oil in April! In the meantime, it’s been almost three months. People are still being killed and a country destroyed. Has Biden addressed the UN to express condemnation? When Putin was not kicked out of the G20, did we hear anything from Biden? He has not gone to Ukraine due to security reasons, but it was safe enough for his wife.

Biden’s attempt to lower gas prices has been to deplete our reserves. The supply of crude oil determines price of gas. Using reserves has little, or a temporary, effect on prices. All Biden has to do is make a policy statement to increase domestic oil production, to put pressure on the price per barrel. Speaking more outrageously against Russia and showing more backbone would also go a long way to help end the war.
