Letter to the editor: To solve problems, we must follow Bible's direction

Why can’t we respect the fact that everyone has an opinion, whether or not it is one we agree with? I refer in particular to letter-writer Al Duerig (“Trump-Jesus comparison blasphemous,” Oct. 1, TribLIVE), who calls Trump supporters blind, stupid or rich. Why can’t you just state your case without the name-calling?

The answer to most of today’s problems can be found in the next letter, I think (“Heart of man must change,” Oct. 1, TribLIVE). Michael Matievich, with the wisdom of age, gives the answer clearly. We, the people, are our own worst enemy. Unless and until we return to our old-fashioned values, with Christ and family as the center of our lives, none of today’s problems can or will be solved. We must respect each other and be respectable ourselves. Follow the directions for living found in the Bible, where you will not find name-calling acceptable, Mr. Duerig.

Before anyone has a fit because I use Christ as the example, notice that my response is to that example. Not being well versed in other religions, I can’t factually comment on them. However, from the little that I do know, I don’t think any of them condone hatred … even Muslims.

In 1996 I wrote a letter suggesting parents should not let their children play in the street. Last year I wrote that parents should not allow their children to have access to guns. This is progress?
