Letter to the editor: Time to open federal lands, waters to energy development
Natural gas is fueling our economy and powering our energy needs. However, our country has yet to reach its full energy potential thanks to unnecessary government roadblocks and policies that hinder, rather than support, energy growth.
It’s time for the federal government to allow for energy development on federal lands and waters. We have acres upon acres of untapped energy resources. But rather than safely developing these lands — and enhancing our nation’s energy stability and security — the Biden administration has introduced contradictory policies that hinder exploration.
Additionally, we need to support the environmental benefits that come with natural gas production. An increased use of natural gas has helped to lower carbon emissions over the years. Natural gas is an environmentally friendly energy source, and elected officials should consider how beneficial natural gas can be to both our environment and economy.
As for economic impact, the natural gas industry supports more than 11 million jobs across the country, and that number could grow even higher if policies are put in place that support growth and investment. But it’s critical that we prepare now for the jobs of tomorrow. We need to invest in STEM programs and the training to obtain the skills needed to help the industry to thrive.
By planning and investing today, we can secure our country’s energy future.
