Letter to the editor: Time for peace in our country
With the presidential election finally over, I had hoped we were past the lies, name-calling, spreading of hate and other anti- and un-American activities that have been used to attack each other, our Constitution, our justice system and our very lives, as the country has been thrust toward a civil war.
I am an independent person, not just an independent voter. I was even born on the Fourth of July. I believe that everyone who states that he/she wants to represent “we the people” in a political capacity should automatically be transformed into an independent once elected to office, instead of huddling in groups/parties that choose to lie, cheat and steal to protect their own selfish interests and disdain others who choose to tell the truth.
As I was reading the letters to the editor, I ran across some good advice from Kenneth Minyon (“Biden voters, look what you’ve done,” April 13, TribLIVE), who stated, “Voters need to understand that elections are not popularity contests, they are job interviews. Hire the best person to do the job.” I wholeheartedly agree. If these words of wisdom had been followed these past four or five years, our country would be at peace today.
I want to thank our local reporters and newspapers for allowing the common man and woman space to sound off about local issues that are important to us. But I don’t believe this space should be used for even more political campaigning/propaganda that must be reviewed to determine if it is, indeed, factual.
