Letter to the editor: Threats to democracy

I was disappointed to read the Associated Press article “Democrats make case for voting overhaul” (March 27, TribLIVE). In my opinion, it was just a lengthy and biased repetition of Democratic talking points. Democrats criticize the recent Georgia election rules law, calling it an attack on democracy and a suppression of Black and Latino voters.

What’s in this terrible new law? It is not until the 11th paragraph of the article that the AP informs us that the law limits early voting and requires new voter ID requirements. Oh, the horror! I find it tiresome to hear whenever Republicans attempt to strengthen voter identification rules in order to ensure fair and honest elections, Democrats and their media enablers cry “racism” and “voter suppression.”

Actually, what is a threat to our democracy is the partisan Democratic House Resolution 1, the For the People Act, already passed by the House of Representatives by party-line vote. The AP describes it simply as “a sweeping elections bill.” They fail to inform us that the bill proposes that the federal government take control of all election laws from the states where that control currently resides. In my opinion, many of the proposals in HR 1 will enable voter fraud. Please contact Pennsylvania Sens. Bob Casey and Pat Toomey and ask them to oppose HR 1.
