Letter to the editor: This may not have happened ... yet

Age and faulty memory have combined to force me to come to terms with both fond and unpleasant recollections of things that I know never happened.

Reading media mogul Rupert Murdoch’s testimony in the defamation lawsuit brought by Dominion Voting Systems against Fox News is one example. Under oath and with a straight face, he claimed to have no knowledge of the lies being told daily by Tucker Carlson and other Fox commentators. It reminded me of the story of the piano player in the brothel, who swore to those who asked that he was totally ignorant of what was going on upstairs.

I clearly recall watching a TV news conference where Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced plans to build walls on his state’s Atlantic and Gulf coast borders designed to keep out hurricanes. He credited a Palm Beach, Mar-a-Lago resident with the idea which included suggested ways of having Cuba and Haiti pay construction costs. Yogi Berra might call this “dejà vu all over again.”

I remember being shocked by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’s recently announced decision to resign from the bench in order to write a book with the working title, “How Unethical Behavior Can Lead to Success.” It caught me off guard, but I look forward to its publication.

One ugly memory is that of brown-shirted, jack-booted thugs bursting into my home and confiscating my books. I watched them drive away in swastika-painted vehicles heading toward a large bonfire.

None of the above ever happened … at least not yet.
