Letter to the editor: They want their country back — from who?

Did you notice the Confederate flag(s) at the Jan. 6 failed coup to overthrow our government? What does that tell you? Let me walk you through it.

We had a two-term Black president and now have a Black vice president. This is all there is to know. This is all you need to know.

“We want our country back,” many say. Oh, really? I wonder from whom. Sorry, bigots; this country does not belong solely to you.

However, all is not lost. I have a wonderful idea. Pick up your assault-style rifles, your beer and your Bibles, get in your pickups and go collect Sens. Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Scott Perry, Jim Jordan and Marjorie Taylor Greene. After that, go find that special TV that will transport you to Pleasantville. There you will find the likes of George Wallace, Jesse Helms and Strom Thurmond. You get the picture, right?

I’m sorry for bigots. Sorry, Fox News. This “rift” in our society is not about Hillary, Hunter or even inflation. “We want our country back.” A racist dog whistle if ever there was one.
