I keep seeing letter-writers refer to “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS) as the reason why other letter-writers hate Donald Trump. But how and why does TDS happen? Could it be that many people, including many non-MAGA conservatives, see through his piles of lies? Or his unending cruelty toward others?
What about the long list of previous Trump officials — his former chief of staff, attorney general, secretary of State, national security adviser and many others — who keep telling us he is unfit for office and a danger to America?
In light of these reasons, I propose we shift the syndrome diagnosis to where it really belongs: with Trump supporters. Not because they hate him but because they blindly worship him.
When Trump tells his followers he is God’s chosen leader and they believe him and make signs showing Trump and Jesus together, it is TDS.
When Trump denigrates our veterans, ridicules our brave soldiers who lost their lives or were held prisoner and desecrates sacred hallowed ground, yet MAGA turns a blind eye, it is TDS.
When Trump convinces his followers half of their fellow Americans are the “real enemy” and must be purged or arrested for disloyalty and the crowd cheers, it is TDS.
I could list many examples of Trump supporters suffering from TDS, but why? The most fervent of believers thinks he walks on water. What I am hoping for is that anyone with a sense of decency, with a sense of patriotism, will vote for normal over crazy. Time to end the madness.
