Letter to the editor: Thank a nurse during National Nurses Week

With the global covid-19 pandemic, we have all seen — some of us up close and personal — just how vital nurses are on the front lines of the nation’s health care system.

During National Nurses Week, May 6-12, I want to recognize and thank the more than 500 nurses and health care workers whom I represent, as well as the more than 3.8 million registered nurses nationwide.

I also want to honor the important work of the tens of thousands of school nurses who work to keep students and staff safe and well in our schools.

Throughout this health crisis, nurses have stepped up again and again, helping to innovate and improve access to care for all patients. They provide lifesaving disease prevention education and help all of us live healthy and productive lives.

This week, I invite you to join me in saying a special thank-you to our hardworking and compassionate nurses who, together, are helping to make our communities safer and healthier for all of us.
