Letter to the editor: Term limits needed for House, Senate

Tribune-Review

I promised myself no more letters to the editor. But the current political atmosphere warrants one more.

I’ve read all the hate/admiration letters for both candidates, and one question keeps bugging me: Why not term limits for the House and Senate?

Joe Biden is a prime example of the need for term limits: over 40 years in government without, in my opinion, accomplishing anything. Too many people on both sides of the aisle are entrenched in long careers, accomplishing nothing much except enriching themselves. But how do you arrive at term limits? It’s like asking a bank bandit to put the money back.

It’s a paradox: president two terms, everybody else, unlimited terms. That doesn’t make any sense. Why not fresh people, fresh ideas, fresh goals after individuals are limited to two terms of three years in House/Senate?

Term limits and elimination of the marriage license will have to come sometime; candidly, not in my lifetime.
