Letter to the editor: Tackling Pa.'s litter problem

Tribune-Review

A 2018-19 survey found that there are approximately 502.5 million pieces of litter in Pennsylvania, much of it single-use items such as plastic water bottles and cigarette butts. Litter affects Pennsylvania’s property values, meaning less people are choosing to live in Pennsylvania.

Here are some ways to help solve our litter problem:

• Make people aware of the problem and show them better ways to manage waste.

• Make sure trash cans and recycling bins are available to all communities.

• Enact more litter laws so there are repercussions for littering.

• Ensure that government and industry leaders work together to identify other ways to help reduce litter.

Reducing litter will keep Pennsylvania beautiful, ensuring that it continues to be a desirable place for residents and visitors alike.
