Letter to the editor: Summer Lee, we hardly know you
With mail-in voting in progress and nonstop TV political ads, one important race gets almost no coverage. State Rep. Summer Lee opposes Mike Doyle in the newly redistricted 12th U.S. Congressional District.
The Pennsylvania House website lists sponsorship memoranda for Lee that give us a view of key issues where she wanted new legislation. The following were among those listed for Lee:
• End Cash Bail in Pennsylvania (sole sponsor) — Some form of this legislation was enacted in D.C., New York, California and New Jersey; all areas that have seen skyrocketing crime rates as many repeat criminals are quickly freed after each new arrest.
• Sex Work Decriminalization — Is this her idea of creating jobs in Pennsylvania?
• CROWN Act — Hair Type and Hairstyle Discrimination — How would this be implemented?
Lee is supported by Sen. Bernie Sanders and is in line to join Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Squad,” which supports massive inflationary spending for the Green New Deal and other socialist programs.
Meanwhile, Mike Doyle has 34 years of business experience and has served on Plum Council since 2005, currently as president. Plum is the second largest borough in Pennsylvania with a population of approximately 27,000.
We have a clear choice. Do we want Lee voting with the “Squad” to move our country further in a direction the vast majority of people don’t like, or do we want a proven local public servant like Doyle?
