Letter to the editor: Students being denied a full education

Regarding the article “Norwin board pulls plug on CNN 10” (Feb. 14, TribLIVE): I am a 1969 graduate of Norwin High School. My parents taught there, and my dad was assistant superintendent. I thought the idea of public education was to obtain a well-rounded education. You are exposed to things that you agree with and things with which you don’t agree. A total education allows you the freedom to make your own decisions based on the facts.

The people who want to ban the ability to obtain that information are misguided. If you don’t like the idea of a well-rounded education, pull your kids out and home school, or send them to private school. Unfortunately, I think most of the people who home school have no clue what they are doing. You are denying your kids the concept of a total education.

This banning of ideas is why the U.S. is ranked so poorly in the world compared to other industrialized countries. This nation is doomed because a minority has a loud mouth.
