Letter to the editor: Straight shooting on guns

Tribune-Review

Letter-writer Al Duerig (“More guns means more shootings,” March 28, TribLIVE) states that gun advocates fabricate “specious arguments.” With simple math he states that 40,000 people are killed by guns each year, a planeload a day, he says. But how conveniently he leaves out the fact that 25,000 of those are by suicide, as if someone intent on leaving this world has no other options.

He goes on to state that “The outdated and ambiguous Second Amendment has limits, as noted by Justice Antonin Scalia in the 2008 decision (Heller) that interpreted it to mean that nearly anyone can own nearly any gun he wants, no questions asked.” Anyone who knows anything about the law knows that it’s not true that “no questions” are asked.

I can see why Duerig doesn’t like guns, because he is not a straight shooter and could never ride with me or Little Joe.
