Letter to the editor: Slaughtering our offspring

Tribune-Review

It occurs to me that since time immemorial every species that has ever existed — cockroaches, fleas, dinosaurs, dolphins, antelopes, garden slugs, all of them — and even the ones that are extinct for various reasons had as their chief aim to perpetuate the species. Procreate, reproduce, perpetuate. Except one.

Homo sapiens is the only species that has spent trillions of dollars to develop the ways, means and methods, and has marched, demonstrated, legislated and demanded, to slaughter its own offspring.

I imagine God is not looking too kindly on the whole thing. I think that eminent theologian Bobby Zimmerman said it best: “And it’s a hard, and it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard. And it’s a hard rain’s a-gonna fall.”
