Letter to the editor: Show patriotism by voting for those who accept election results, condemn Jan. 6

Republicans have a rare and unique opportunity to show their patriotism and love of American democracy in the 2022 elections by not casting ballots for any candidates who continue, all facts to the contrary, to deny the results of the 2020 presidential election. This includes gubernatorial candidate Sen. Doug Mastriano, who still believes the Big Lie that Donald Trump won. Refusing to vote for him and his ilk would send a Big Message that country is more important than party.

The Big Message would also aim at those on the ballot who refuse to condemn the Jan. 6 insurrection and the Big Coup attempt. Again, Mastriano’s name pops up. He was present for the violent attempt by domestic terrorists to overthrow our government.

Anyone who participated in the Big Rip-off, by helping to raise money to build Trump’s southern border wall only to find out later that contributors were scammed, might actually consider the Big Message to be a red flag.

Include those whose candidates now attack the FBI for performing their duties by searching Mar-A-Lago for classified documents taken from the White House as Big Message targets. Trump’s actions should cause all Republicans to rethink their GOP loyalty.

Taken together or separately, candidates who are silent about or support any of these: the BIG LIE, the BIG COUP attempt, the BIG RIPOFF or the BIG STEAL, are unworthy of elective office and are undeserving of any of our votes. Sending the Big Message is an idea whose time has come.
